PODS

"Once in a blue moon, something appears from the Blue Room, alien speakers for your living room"

DR. ALEX PATERSON - THE ORB

In 1991, the legend of a US top-secret facility that allegedly housed alien artifacts from UFO crashes and ancient sites inspired Simon Ghahary to create the Blue Room design identity. Its origination gave birth to Pods, a sound system reimagined and inspired by the electronic music revolution.

Our Blue Room loudspeaker range developed alongside the evolution of Acid House from the early nineties electronic underground music culture to what it is today.

The mission of Blue Room Loudspeakers redefined traditional speaker aesthetics with sculptural, rounded forms with anatomical contours. Objects to inspire a connection to music. A connection designed to deliver superior sound quality over the standard rectangular enclosures.

"I was always fascinated by the power of sound to transform space and bring listeners together. It inspired me on how music also created the culture around it. At this time, I began experimenting with the construction of Sound Systems. The concept of the Sound System fused all my interests, art, music, design and lifestyle into one."

The Pod range brought a new range of styles and expressive influence to its surroundings. Presenting new answers to situations welcome to change, such as clubs, bars, studios or homes, using heightened technological advancements of B&W, Blue Room began creating the future shape of sound.

Founded in 1992 and made in England, it developed the first pod loudspeaker and gave birth to a second to provide a legendary full-frequency sound system solution for a nightclub in Brighton, UK, called the Escape.

Those two Pods, named House and Techno, respectively, became the bedrock of partnership with the prestigious B&W Loudspeakers, UK, in 1993. After two and a half golden years, including the MiniPod's development, it paused and emerged as an independent company running 1997-2001 in the UK, bolstered by its record label Blue Room Released. In 2001 it ended as fast as it took off. Scandyna, Denmark, took over it, with its production taken overseas to the Far East.

  • HOUSE POD

The first Pod was developed to encompass the central tenets of the Blue Room philosphy.

  • TECHNO POD

Developed to provide part of a full-frequency sound system experience. Professional Environments.

  • B&W YEARS

The support at B&W allowed the capability to produce the line entirely from its location in Worthing, UK. Our team grew to make the cabinets needed to supply our new worldwide audience.

  • MINIPOD

Your music companion, Minipod, delivers performance sound in a smaller package. As the range grew, so did its capacity to provide options for each listening environment.

  • ROBERT TRUNZ

After selling his ownership of B&W, Robert Trunz took Blue Room Loudspeakers independently. He brought his knowledge and experience to guide the business, with Simon Ghahary continuing the Blue Room's Industrial Design and Creative Direction.

  • MINIPOD ABS

Developing the Minipod for mass production and changing cabinet materials from handmade GRP to ABS injection plastic made the minipod more accessible to a broader audience. It was made in Billund, Denmark, the exact location of LEGO.

  • BASS STATION

The Bass Station provides lower bass frequencies as a subwoofer for the Minipod range. Its unique shape allows it to fit within the living room as a piece of furniture, and its cylindrical styling makes it perfect for sitting in corners.

  • CINE POD

The Cine Pod center channel provided the centerpiece to a 5.1 Sound system, perfect for the cinema listening experience.

"As a form, it was also organic, undulating and evolved fit for purpose. This concept triggered many ideas and has continually inspired me throughout my career. My forms have grown to display a lineage of visual personality traits that make them distinct as a family."
